Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
